Do you suffer with Low Back Pain?

DO YOU SUFFER WITH low back pain (LBK) first thing in the morning making getting out of bed and walking difficult? Difficulty sitting for any length of time that requires you to fidget to find a few minutes of relief? Bending over to pick something from the floor or to tie your shoes?

Low back pain is second only to headache among the leading causes of pain. 6.5 million people are bedridden with low back pain on any given day with 1.5 million new cases per month. Low back pain is very costly. Every year there are more than 90 million work days lost and over 5 billion is spent for diagnosis and treatment.¹

SYMPTOMS

  • Dull ache
  • Stabbing pain
  • Bowel or bladder control problems
  • Leg weakness

CAUSES

There are many different causes of LBK pain. Everyone is different. As my Teacher would say, “I never saw a low back pain walk into my office”.

  • Work related lifting, pulling, twisting, prolonged sitting
  • Carrying a purse, backpack or briefcase
  • Workouts at gym, golf course, “Weekend Warriors”
  • Prolonged bad posture/slouching
  • Herniated disks
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Fibromyalgia

"My name is Victor T. and I am the director of Les Ballets Grandiva Ltd./ Les Ballets Eloelle Inc. I came to Mr. Liberto with several physical problems including some that I had had for over 25 years. My back was inflamed and felt like I had two spines. I had a severe charlie horse that would not go away in my hip area and I had a severe pain on the inside of my leg near the groin area.

Mr. Liberto was able to fix all my problems…in two weeks. I am a professional dancer and have had trouble with one ankle since I was a child. His treatments fixed the ankle and my other problems. I am truly lucky to have found him and would recommend him to anyone with a desire to alleviate pain in their body."

Back Sprain or Strain

Symptoms generally include:

  • Muscle spasms, cramping, and stiffness.
  • Pain in the back and buttocks.

It may come on quickly or gradually. It most often occurs in episodes. Certain movements make it worse, and resting makes it feel better. The worst pain usually lasts 48 to 72 hours and may be followed by days or weeks of less severe pain. It's very easy to reinjure your back during this time.

Nerve-root pressure

Symptoms generally include:

  • Leg pain. If pain extends below the knee, it is more likely to be due to pressure on a nerve than to a muscle problem. Most commonly, it's a pain that starts in the buttock and travels down the back of the leg as far as the ankle or foot. This pain pattern is known as sciatica. For more information, see the topic Sciatica.

  • Nerve-related problems, such as tingling, numbness, or weakness in one leg or in the foot, lower leg, or both legs. Tingling may begin in the buttock and extend to the ankle or foot. Weakness or numbness in both legs, or loss of bladder and/or bowel control, are symptoms of cauda equina (“Horse Tail”… the nerves at the very bottom of your spinal cord) syndrome, which requires immediate medical attention.

Arthritis of the Spine

Arthritis of the spine usually causes pain that:

  • Is worse in the back and hip region
  • Starts gradually, gets worse over time, and lasts longer than 3 to 6 months.
  • Is generally worse in the morning or after prolonged periods of inactivity. Arthritis pain gets better when you move around.

Massage may reduce low back pain, especially when combined with exercises and back care education.
